What Type of Symptoms Are There with Coccidioidomycosis Fungus Infections?

In most of the cases, there is no appearance of noticeable symptoms of Coccidioidomycosis. However, in the primary stage of the disease, people face acute or sometimes sub-acute respiratory symptoms like dry cough, chest pain, pleural effusion etc.

Many experience distresses like dyspnea, sore throat, chills and headache. Chest pain is one of the most common symptoms that are usually perceived as an alert sign of the progression of the disease by doctors. Fever is yet another common problem which may last for a week, depending on the severity of the fungus infestation. Some women, particularly white, may experience the development of red colored nodules on the legs, ankles and knees.

Mostly, the primary infection heals naturally without the requirement of any medicines. In rare occasions, the Coccidioidomycosis spreads to other body organs as well. This usually happens after weeks or months of the invasion of the fungus into the body. This form of the disease is called disseminated coccidioidomycosis which leads to abscesses and fever. This affects mainly the central nervous system, skeletal, renal and subcutaneous tissues. The person experiences severe bone pain at the locations of the fungus attack.
