Fungal meningitis causes
Fungal meningitis is a fungal infection at body parts like brain and spinal cord. Growth of fungus colony in these body parts cause swelling and irritation. Three types of fungus are the major carriers of this disease. They are Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans and Histoplasma. Thrush is caused by Candida albicans. This fungus causes mild meningitis. But, in some cases the infection might be chronic and severe. Common victims of this fungus are premature and low-weight babies. Common victims of Cryptococcus neoformans are the people with weak immune system. It is the major cause of Cryptococcal meningitis too. This fungus is found almost everywhere including soil. All of us are exposed to it, but people with weak immune system fall prey to its evil effects. People having inherited immune systems and cancer are also affected by this fungus. Histoplasma is also common in it presence. It affects people with defective immune system. There are several medical complications which might lead to growth of all the above fungus. They are diabetes, cancer, or HIV.
All of these diseases impact victim’s immune system and make it more vulnerable towards growth of these microorganisms. Early detection and effective medication can help you to treat fungal meningitis.
