What are some types of prescription drugs?
There is a wide variety of prescription medications that family physicians are commonly known to prescribe to their patient’s for the treatment of chronic pain that they are experiencing, that are in the classification of narcotics. Narcotic drugs are also referred to as opiates, because they are obtained from what is called opium poppy.
Some of the most widely used forms of narcotic medications would include Oxymorphone known as Numorphan, codeine, morphine oxycodone, hydromorphone known as Dilaudid, methadone known as Dolophine, and the drug levorphanol that is known as Levo-Dromoran. Most of these prescription medicines are to be taken orally, but some are also offered in an injection form, or by the use of a suppository that is taken rectally. There are also commonly used drugs that contain ibuprofen that work great for pain relief. These are known as (NSAIDs) non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines that can act very quickly. These drugs would include Trilisate, Motrin, Nalfon, and Naprosyn. These particular medications do not cause any type of physical dependency when they are used to relieve pain, as most of the narcotic medications that are prescribed can cause. Your physician can suggest the drug that can best relieve your condition of pain.
