What does Vitamin K Do?

One of the key functions of vitamin K is formation of proteins that control the calcium. The function of vitamin K related psychologically is conversion of amino acid glutamate into another acid known as gamma carboxylic acid.

Vitamin K is also responsible for making the protein which helps the blood to clot at the time of injury to prevent the loss of excessive blood. If your diet does not meet the body requirement of vitamin K, then it can result in excessive bleeding when you are subjected to cut or scratch. Vitamin K also helps to keep the calcium out of your arteries because if the calcium gets deposited in the lining of the arteries replacing cholesterol, then it causes hardening of the arteries. Vitamin K is also necessary for deposition of calcium in the bones.

 The bacteria present in the colon are responsible for making most of the body’s vitamin K. It also assists in proper functioning of the liver. For the women suffering from excessive bleeding during menstrual phase, then vitamin K helps in reducing it. Vitamin K also participates in the energy production activities related to the tissues of the nervous system. It is also useful in prevention of hemorrhages.
